"And don't let anything distract you from watching Distraction News!" -Dora at the end of every segment.
Table of Contents
Dora Smarmy is a preppy news anchor, who you probably already know, is the host for Distraction News. Presumably, Dora is very well focused as they aren't distracted by the things around them; and can keep talking despite them. Dora seems to be a little snarky and blunt towards the audience, who they acknowledge as children. Although this might just be their tone of voice coming off that way. Dora is admittedly, a little zealous and might have a bit of an ego. Its implied Dora has other news anchor jobs (From Smart Mouth: Vivacious and Smart Mouth: Quagmire.) And despite their slight attitude, does seemingly enjoy their job.
Although we've never seen Dora off camera, (As in a non-host setting) its stated they enjoy: Planting flowers, reading, and possibly theater.
Dora is frequently referred to as a "cardboard cut out person" both by others and by themself. Likely meaning this is their species aswell as the material their puppet is made out of. Doras puppet seems to move similarly to a marionette, and presumably has some type of contraption behind their head to move the mouth. The only other part of Dora that moves is their hands to shuffle papers. Although, according to Smart Mouth: Aspirations they aspired to become a ballerina "but had two left feet". And in Smart Mouth: Zealous said they attempted to run a marathon. Meaning Dora does have a lower half not seen, and can move around normally.
In general: Dora is humanoid appearing, and as mentioned earlier is made of cardboard. They have pale skin with rosy cheeks, eyelashes, and red lips/nails in both of their appearances. Doras eyes do not blink for season 1, but do have blinking motions during season 2. Presumably, Dora might be reading a teleprompter hence the forward stare. According to the first episode (Of Distraction News), Dora wears a wig, which is curly and made out of paper-like material.
In season 1: Dora wears a dark brown-red jacket with light brown stripes on the chest, and light brown cuffs. Their jacket is open and they wear a yellow blouse with orange details underneath. They seem to have some kind of TV shaped pin at the top, which might be a microphone. To their left hand they wear a small silver looking bracelet, and to their right is a gold-ish watch. Finally, they wear small brown circle earrings that form a hoop. In this season, their eyes are green. Some may assume their hair is yellow, but this is likely due to the camera quality or lighting. As HD photos of Dora show their hair to be yellow.
In season 2: Dora now wears a bright red jacket, likely closed. They wear a big blue bow, and have some kind of pin on their jacket. They still have the same earrings and watch, although the hands are swapped. Their eyes in this season are now blue, and the puppet seems to have more orange hair. Although it might again be the camera quality, as HD photos of Doras season 2 appearance haven't been shown.
Speculation: (This is the Webmasters personal opinion/speculation.) While writing Doras physical description I noticed that their puppet is.. Very inconsistent in a few areas. Obviously, their puppet was changed for season 2, but before the major change it seems likely some parts might've been swapped. Take for example this comparison between season 1 Dora and Smart Mouth Dora. Season 1 Doras eyes have a slight crook to them, while Smart Mouth has them straight. Was their head changed at some point? And they got a new model for season 2 due to the puppet not meant to be moved around so much? Theres a bit of scuffs on the higher definition photos of the season 1 puppet, which might hint to this.
- Other characters mentioned by Dora, or related to Dora, are: Walter, Ned, Rose, Roscoe, Julia, Joan Wrinklebe, Ethel,
- According to Smart Mouth: Gamut Dora plants flowers. White tulips and yellow daffodils for spring, red roses for summer, and orange chrysanthemums for fall.
- Mentioned in Smart Mouth: Aspiriations Dora aspired to become a ballerina, but "had two left feet" and decided to become a anchorperson instead.
- Although likely unintentional, Dora is somewhat implied to be gender neutral as they are called "anchorperson" repeatedly both by the announcer for Distraction News and occassionally by themselves*. However, Dora does refer to themselves as a "anchorgal" in Smart Mouth: Aspiriations. Despite this, Dora has no pronouns used on them.* Gender neutral language might just be a joke as Dora is a "cardboard cut out" made to resemble a person.
